William Grimsdick (note different spelling on medal) was born in Epping, Essex. A Shoemaker by occupation, he attested for the 50th Regiment on 4 February 1838. With the regiment he served over one year in New South Wales and over five in India, seeing service at the action at Punniar and in the 1st Sikh War at the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, Aliwal and Sobraon. In the latter battle he was wounded. Grimsdick was discharged on 22 June 1847. With copied discharge papers.
