A C.B. group of three awarded to Colonel John Lloyd, Bombay Artillery

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, C.B. (Military) Companion’s breast badge, gold and enamel, hallmark date unclear, with swivel ring a wide suspension, with gold buckle on detached ribbon; Ghuznee 1839, (Major John Lloyd) edge engraved, with replacement ball mount and ring and straight bar suspension, with brooch bar; Meeanee Hyderabad Medal 1843 (Major John Lloyd) engraved naming, with replacement ball mount and ring and straight bar suspension, medals with some contact marks and edge bruising, very fine and better (3) £3200-3600

John Lloyd was born on 18 November 1799 and was educated at Addiscombe.

Appointed a Lieutenant in the Bombay Artillery on 1 September 1818 and promoted to Captain in May 1829. Served in the First Afghan War, seeing service at Ghuznee, July 1839 and Kabul, August 1839. For his services he was awarded the Ghuznee Medal, was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 30 October 1839) and awarded the brevet of Major, 23 July 1839. He commanded the Artillery in Scinde, 1840-42 and was at Meeanee-Hyderabad 1843. For his services he was awarded the medal, was twice mentioned in despatches (London Gazettes 11 April 1843 and 9 May 1843), was awarded the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel, 4 July 1843 and awarded the C.C., 4 July 1843. He commanded the Golundanze Battalion and was the officer in charge of the Madras and Bombay Artillery at the capture of the fortress of Punella on 1 December 1844, for which he was again mentioned in despatches. Lloyd was advanced to Major in January 1844 and to Lieutenant-Colonel in June 1849.

He retired from the Indian Army on 15 April 1850 and received the promotion to Colonel in November 1854. On the formation of the Volunteer Force in England in 1859, he was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the Cheshire Volunteer Artillery Administrative Brigade, 20 October 1860.
