23rd Madras Native Infantry (Wallajahabad Light Infantry) Officers’ Mess Soup Plate. A very rare and magnificent example of rococo outline (26.8 cms), the border profusely decorated in cobalt blue, gold and polychrome floral displays depending into the central reserve, in the centre ornate regimental insignia showing St. Edward’s crown over a circular strap ‘Now or Never’ this enclosing ‘XXIII’ over script capitals ‘WLI’, the strap with attendant laurel sprays, below the strap two battle honour scrolls ‘Seringapatam and Nagpore’.
