Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Bernard Horace Wright), good very fine £50-70

Bernard Horace Wright was killed in action on the Somme on 3 April 1917, while serving in the 2/5th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment - according to his entry on the register of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, ‘he was killed in a voluntary effort to carry mails to his comrades through enemy fire.’ The son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wright of Barrow-on-Soar, Leicestershire, he was 20 years of age and is buried in Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Interestingly, the same source confirms that he also ‘served throughout the Irish Rebellion’, when as part of the 59th Division, the 2/5th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, was indeed ordered to Ireland.
