The Institution’s Silver Medal awarded to Captain William W. Peddle and Third Hand Andrew Seaward, both of the trawler Onyx.

‘30 May 1913: A strong south-west gale was blowing when the Milford trawler Providence was seen to be in distress near Carmarthen Bay, with a very heavy sea breaking over her. The Onyx, which was in the vicinity, went to her, and her 16 foot punt was lowered and, manned by Captain Peddle and his third hand, taken through the heavy sea. Shortly before the casualty foundered, her four man crew was taken off, this included her Master with a broken arm and one seaman with a wooden leg.’ (ref. Lifeboat Gallantry, by Barry Cox)
