‘At 12.30 a.m. on the 27th April, 1913, a woman, in attempting suicide, threw herself into the Lea at Bromley, there being a depth of 9 feet. F. J. Cade, P.C., went in but failed to save her, and A. F. Eade then went in and got her out.’ Both were awarded the R.H.S. Medal in Bronze. (ref. R.H.S. Case no. 39,894).

Frederick James Cade was born in Peckham, London. A Boot Salesman by occupation and a member of the East Surrey Militia, he joined ‘K’ Division Metropolitan Police on 19 August 1901. He was transferred to ‘P’ Division in 1921.
