Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (541 Pte. J. Marshall, 43rd Foot) good very fine £80-100

James Marshall was born in the Parish of West Church, Edinburgh. A Baker by occupation, he attested for the 74th Regiment at Edinburgh on 5 September 1849. He re-engaged with the 43rd Regiment in April 1860. Marshall served over 2 years in the Cape Province; 10 years in India and over two years in New Zealand. In addition to the above he was awarded the South Africa Medal 1834-53 for the Third Kaffir War and a medal for the New Zealand War. He was discharged on 7 March 1871 after completing his second period of engagement. With copied discharge papers.
