A rare and attractive Boer War “Tribute” grouping to Private G. Loader, Royal Berkshire Regiment

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (6806 Pte. G. Loader, 2nd Rl. Berks Regt.), the officially riveted clasps loose on riband, good very fine, together with a fine-quality “Tribute” oval snuff box, silver, with gilt interior, by Henry Williamson Ltd., hallmarks for Birmingham 1900, the lid with engraved Coat of Arms and ‘Presented to Private G. Loader, F (Abingdon) Company, 1st V.B. R. Berks Regt. on his return from active service with the Volunteer Company, 2nd Batt. Royal Berks. Regt. in South Africa 1900-1901’, his Royal Berkshires’ cap badge and original Certificate of Discharge, in good overall condition (Lot) £400-500

George Loader, who was from the parish of St. Nicholas in Abingdon, enlisted in the Volunteer Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment, at Reading in January 1900, aged 26 years, and was discharged on the termination of his engagement in June 1901, when his intended place of residence was Northport, Abingdon.
