John Walker was born in June 1871 and attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, aged 21 years, 8 months. Initially with the 3rd Battalion, he was posted to India with the 1st Battalion in January 1894. He served with the battalion in the Chitral Relief Force and was killed in action, receiving a bullet to the head, in the action at the Malakand Pass, 3 April 1885.
