Charles Jones was born at Bermondsey, London, and enlisted in London on 28 February 1877, aged 19 years 6 months. He served in South Africa from 2 May 1879 to 12 January 1880, prior to which he had been tried and imprisoned for desertion. At the time of his discharge at Brecon on 20 February 1889, his conduct was described as ‘bad latterly good’. Sold with copied discharge papers.
