Daniel Mason was born in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. A Miner by occupation, he attested for the Royal Scots Fusiliers at Ayr on 19 September 1881, aged 22 years, 9 months. Appointed a Drummer, December 1883-January 1889, he served in the East Indies, February 1882-February 1889. Transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1889, he was discharged on 18 September 1893. With copied service papers.
