A Second World War B.E.M. awarded to Flight Sergeant J. A. Summers, No. 199 Squadron, Royal Air Force

British Empire Medal (Military) G.VI.R., 1st issue (520100 A/F/Sgt. John A. Summers, R.A.F.) good very fine £200-250

B.E.M. London Gazette 1 January 1945. The recommendation states: ‘Acting Flight Sergeant John Ainslie Summers, 199 Squadron. He took over the duties of N.C.O. in charge of ‘A’ Flight, whilst he was very junior. Such was the power of his personality and example that every member of the Flight has worked to the utmost capacity for him. The Squadron has recently been re-equipped with Stirling aircraft and Flight Sergeant Summers performed outstanding services during these most harassing and difficult times when a new type of aircraft was being operated in bad weather. As a technician and leader of men Flight Sergeant Summers is outstanding.’
