An ‘Operation Neptune’ D.S.C. group of eight awarded to Commander J. P. Apps, Royal Navy

Distinguished Service Cross, G.VI.R., the reverse dated 1944; 1914-15 Star (Mid., R.N.R.); British War and Victory Medals (S.Lt., R.N.); Naval General Service 1915-62, 2 clasps, Palestine 1936-39, Minesweeping 1945-51 (Lt.Cdr., R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star, clasp, France and Germany; War Medal, with M.I.D. oak leaf, together with original Admiralty letter advising of the award of the D.S.C., generally good very fine (8) £800-1000

D.S.C. London Gazette 28 November 1944: ‘For gallantry, skill, determination and undaunted devotion to duty during the landing of Allied Forces on the coast of Normandy.’

The original recommendation for an immediate award reads: ‘Acting Commander John Pollington Apps, H.M.S.
Tadoussac. For keenness, skill and devotion to duty in handling his ship during the sweeping of the Approach channel, transport area, and fire support channel for the assault in Operation Neptune.’

M.I.D.
