A rare campaign pair awarded to Trooper F. M. Hamer, Parachute Regiment and 22 Special Air Service Regiment, severely wounded in the assault on the Green Mountain

Fred Malwyn Hamer joined the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment as a National Serviceman in July 1951, and transferred to the Parachute Regiment in September 1951. He re-enlisted for part time National Service into the Parachute Regiment (TA) in August 1953, joining the Regular Army in May 1956, still with the Paras. He was posted to 22 SAS in November 1957 and was discharged in June 1965. He served with the Parachute Regiment in the Near East and Cyprus, and with the SAS in Malaya and the Arabian Peninsula. He was severely wounded during the SAS attack on the Jebel Akhdar, or Green Mountain, in Oman on 27 January 1959, when ‘a grenade, exploded by a chance shot, wounded Troopers Carter, Hamer and Bembridge. Carter and Bembridge later died of their wounds.’ The lot is sold with confirmation of his service and medal entitlement.
