A Great War ‘Al Valore Militare‘ group of three awarded to Private George Proudlock, 11th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers

British War and Victory Medals (28-643 Pte., North’d Fus.); Italy, Al Valore Militare, bronze (Pte. G. Proudlock) in case of issue, together with named 23rd Division Gallantry Certificate for ‘conspicuous bravery in the field on 27th May 1918’, and a trench art Vesta case inscribed ‘G. Proudlock, 11th N.Fs. Italia. 1918. Ricordo di Guerra’, extremely fine (3) £150-200

The following details are taken from the Battalion War Diary: ‘May 27th [1918] - A daylight patrol of 2 men of D Co. left our lines at 5 p.m. and proceeded to within 50x of S. Ave. where they found the body of L.Cpl. Kirk lying at H.59.51. After removing his effects and all marks of identification they located the body of a dead Austrian but were unable to search it as it was lying in too exposed a position... June 6th - The following Officers and OR proceeded to Villaverla to receive Italian Decorations presented by the King of Italy... Pte Proudlock and Pte Rush (D Co.) Italian Bronze Medal for Valour for a daylight patrol.’
