G. L. Weir was Mentioned in Lord Roberts Despatch of 4 September 1901. He was one of the original compliment of sixty men who served in the Highland Company of the 22nd Mounted Infantry. Only three of these sixty were entitled to the clasp for Transvaal, having earned it with the 23rd Battalion, Mounted Infantry.
