A mounted group of five attributed to Hon. Captain and Riding Master B. Turner, D.C.M., late Regimental Sergeant Major, 10th Hussars, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal, V.R.; Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp; Egypt & Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85; Q.S.A., 5 clasps, C.C., O.F.S., Tvl., S.A. 1901, S.A. 1902; Khedive’s Star 1884-6, mounted ‘Cavalry’ style as worn, good very fine (5) £150-200

Captain Benjamin Turner was R.S.M. of the 10th Hussars during the Nile Expedition, serving with the Light Camel Regiment. He was mentioned in despatches and awarded the D.C.M. in 1885: ‘At all times showed the most remarkable coolness and zeal in his responsible position (Regimental Sergeant Major), and during the night of the 16th of February at Abu Klea was continually under fire.’ He served also in the campaigns in Afghanistan and South Africa, and died at Margate on 2 February 1944.
