A Great War Ceramic Memorial Plaque, in the form of a shield, 26cm by 23cm, white glazed whith black inscription ‘In loving memory of Corporal John Hill Davenport of the 8th North Staffs. Regt., beloved son of John Hill and Mrs Davenport of 6 Camp Road, Smallthorne, who was killed in action in France on July 31st 1916, aged 19 years. Only a British Soldier, only a dear mothers pride, he answered the call of honour, during his duty he died. He has served his King and Country, we know he has done his best, now he sleeps in the arms of Jesus, a British soldier at rest.’ good condition £80-120
