Charge of The Light Brigade, two original bestowal documents for the award of the Medaille Militaire to Corporal James Nunnerley, 17th Lancers, comprising the named French award certificate, together with its companion certificate in English, the two documents mounted in a contemporary red leather and gilt tooled folder, some staining, but otherwise in very good condition and rare £200-300

Corporal James Ikin Nunnerley was born in 1831 at Wilderspool, Cheshire. He enlisted into the 17th Lancers in 1847 and five years later took part in Lord Wellington’s funeral. He is confirmed as having ridden in the Charge of The Light Brigade on 25 October 1854. Refer: Short Sketch of The 17th Lancers and Life of Sergeant Major J. I.
