Naval General Service 1793-1840, 2 clasps, Nile, Acre 30 May 1799 (William Hughes) some edge bruising, otherwise good very fine £1800-2200

William Hughes was a native of Holyhead, Anglesey, and is confirmed on the roll for the Nile as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Leander. He is not shown on the Admiralty rolls for the Acre clasp but a search of the Ship’s Musters for H.M.S. Alliance reveal that he was indeed present aboard this ship at the siege of Acre and therefore entitled to the clasp, approximately 52 of which were issued, including 11 ‘verified aboard, not on roll’. One other man with these names is shown on the roll as entitled to the clasp for the attack on New Orleans, Boat Service 14 December 1814. Sold with full research including copies of relevant Musters.
