Henry VI (First reign, 1422-1461), Trefoil/Leaf Mascle issue mule, Halfpenny, Calais, mm. unclear, leaf on breast, trefoils by neck and after henric’, rev. mascle before la, leaf on inner circle under sie, 0.39g/3h (Whitton –; cf. N 1500/1481; cf. S 1912/1896). Somewhat off-centre, otherwise better than fine with all the relevant marks clear, unpublished, UNIQUE £500-700

Coinage at the Calais mint was resumed in July 1422 and for the next decade or so large quantities of gold and silver were struck there. Deteriorating political conditions in France from 1435 led to a substantial reduction in coinage after that date. The last surviving account for the Calais mint belongs to the period 1448-50, during the Leaf-Pellet issue (Allen, BNJ 2010, p.138); in the absence of account books it is thought that the mint was closed sometime afterwards and it had certainly ceased to strike coins by 1457
