Henry I (1100-1135), Penny, Small Profile type, Winchester, Sawulf, sapvlf : on : [ – ], 1.19g/6h (Harris, SCMB 1987, pp.344-5; BMC –; N 868; S 1273). Flat in places, otherwise good fine, extremely rare £400-600

Dr Martin Allen kindly supplied the following information to the finder: “This is the second known coin of the Winchester moneyer Sawulf in Henry I type 12, reading + sapvlf : on : [ ]e. The other coin of the moneyer in type 12 is in the Fitzwilliam Museum. There are also coins of this moneyer in Henry I types 11 and 13, both of them unique for the type, bringing the total number of coins known for this moneyer to only four”
