European Security and Defence Policy Service Medal was awarded with the clasp ‘Althea’ for service in Bosnia since 2004. The regiment returned to London in 2006 as a public duties battalion, alternating this role with the Grenadier Guards. The regiment deployed to Bosnia in October 2006, relieving the 2nd Yorkshire Regiment. In November 2007 it was deployed to Belize at short notice to take part in jungle warfare training, returning to the U.K. just before Christmas. In 2008 it moved to Lille Barracks in Aldershot in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan on Operation Herrick 10. In April 2009 the regiment deployed to Afghanistan on what proved to be a particularly tough tour which cost the battalion six killed including their Commanding Officer Lieutenant-Colonel Rupert Thorneloe.
