David Smith was born in Reading, Berkshire and enlisted at Swindon, Wiltshire. Serving with the 1/6th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment he died of wounds on 18 April 1917, aged 38 years. He was buried in the Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
