Reginald Seymour Baskett was born at Sheerness, Kent, on 16 July 1881. He was apprenticed at Sheerness Dockyard for 6 years, and spent 6 months as a Journeyman at the Dockyard before going to sea for 7 months as a 3rd Officer. He entered the Royal Indian Marine as Assistant Engineer on 6 November 1903 and served aboard the following Indian Marine Ships; Hardinge, December 1903 to July 1904; Minto, August 1904 to October 1905; Hardinge, October 1905 to March 1907; Dalhousie, March to October 1907; Northbrook, October 1907-June 1908; Leave on private affairs for 12 months from June 1908; promoted Engineer, 1 August 1908; Minto, May 1909 to July 1911; Dufferin, August 1911 to March 1913; Leave on private affairs for 12 months from March 1913; Northbrook, March 1914 to February 1918; Engineer Lieutenant-Commander, 1 August 1917; Minto, January 1919 to February 1921; 1st Assistant to Chief Engineer, Bombay Dockyard, December 1921 to April 1923; Engineer Commander, 2 April 1923; 12 months leave from December 1924; Superintendent Engineer, Mandalay, May 1926; Retired on 19 December 1931.
