Three: Lieutenant E. D. Luard, Royal West Kent Regiment, who died of Enteric, Somaliland, 13 November 1903

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen (Lieut., 2/Rl. W. Kent Rgt.); King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (Lt., Rl. W. Kent Rgt.); Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (Lieut., R. W. Kent Regt.) rank and name officially re-impressed on last; together with a set of three miniature dress medals, generally extremely fine (6) £600-700

Eric Dalbiac Luard was commissioned into the Royal West Kent Regiment on 12 January 1898 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 18 December 1899. As an officer with ‘G; Company he embarked with the 2nd Battalion for South Africa. He served in Colonel Williams’ Column in the country around Heilbron, Kroonstad and Ventersburg, February-March 1901 and later served in Brigadier-General Hamilton’s Column operating in the Eastern Transvaal, August-September 1901. After the war he served in operations in Somaliland - his regiment as a whole not being present. Lieutenant Luard died of Enteric at Garrero, Somaliland on 13 November 1903.
