Miss Margaret K. Howes enrolled in the Kent Detachment of the British Red Cross Society on 18 January 1939. Society records indicate that she provided sterling service during the Second World War. During 1939 she served 80 hours on Red Cross duties; during 1940 she served 640 hours on Air Raid Precaution duties; and during 1941-45 employed with the immobile V.A.D., Civil Nursing Reserve she served 1228 hours in 1941, 323 hours in 1942, 374 hours in 1943, 379 hours in 1944, and 255 hours in 1945. With B.R.C.S. letter confirming service.
