Greece, Sophocles, 1968, a plated bronze medal by P. Turin for the CFM, facing bust, reverse mask of antique tragedy, 81mm, edge stamped 15/100 (CGMP p.1838). Extremely fine, rare (£60-80)

The last medal engraved by Pierre Turin before his death in 1968 at the age of 77. Sophocles (c.497-406 BC), one of the great tragic dramatists of ancient Greece who, according to tradition, wrote 123 plays and won 24 victories in the annual dramatic contests held in Athens
