France, Victor Pauchet, 1928, a bronze medal by F. de Herain, bust left, reverse surgical instruments set in a cruciform pattern, dividing legend, 70mm. Very fine, rare; set in a free-standing glazed case with hardwood base, handwritten legend on surround ‘Presented to The Right Hon. Lord Moynihan’ (£50-70)

Prof. Victor Pauchet, celebrated surgeon from Amiens whose name is commemorated by a street named after him, was awarded the Légion d’Honneur, Jan. 1928.

The recipient of this medal was Berkeley George Andrew Moynihan (1865-1936), 1st Baron Moynihan, professor of clinical surgery at Leeds General Infirmary who, according to DNB, was “considered the most accomplished surgeon in England”
