France, Centenary of the École Polytechnique, Paris, 1894, large cast bronze maquettes or trials of the obverse and reverse of the medal by L.M. Bourgeois, semi-naked female seated, studying papers, airship, lighthouse, locomotive, aqueduct and other instruments of industry around, reverse scholar, legend in front, tablet below, each 221mm (PBE –; cf. Coll. R. Marx 431-2; BDM –) [2]. Excellent style, extremely fine and nicely patinated, extremely rare (£150-200)
