France, Congrès International des Éléctricians, Paris, 1881, a bronze award medal by J.-C. Chaplain, seated male signalling to standing female holding torch and bunch of sticks, reverse legend in and around wreath, tablet below named (Maurice Lévy), 83mm (PBE –; BDM I, 402; Gaz. Num. 1897, p.16, 20); Société d’Encouragement pour l’Industrie Nationale, 1801, a silver award medal by P.-J. Tiolier, standing figure with implements of industry, reverse wreath, named (M. Maurice Lévy, Conférence, 4 Mars 1882), 52mm (BDM VI, 105); Institut de France, a silver award medal by R. Dumarest, helmeted head of Minerva right, reverse wreath, named (Maurice Lévy, 1883), 49mm. [3]. First practically as struck with beautiful even patina, rare, others about extremely fine and better, dark-toned, a very rare group (£150-200)

Maurice Lévy (1839-1910), French mathematician and engineer, became Professor at the Collége de France, 1885. See lot 893 for another medal awarded to him.
