Egypt, Philæ, c.1930, a large bronze Art Deco medal by M. Delannoy for Arthus-Bertrand, seated figure of Isis, reverse exterior of the temple at Philæ dedicated to Isis, named above (au T.C.F. Raymond Douard, 1924-1949) and on edge (Les RR, LL, L’Alliance et la Tradition Maçonnique), 110mm (cf. BDW 30, 779). Very fine and very rare; of Masonic interest (£90-120)

Sold together with a freestanding wooden base for supporting the medal.

Philæ was a small island in the middle of the River Nile in south-eastern Egypt, the site of an important complex of ancient Egyptian monuments, including the Temple of Isis and relics from the late Ptolemaic and Roman Imperial periods. Philæ was flooded after the completion and opening of the Aswan Dam
