Estimate: £400–£600

Italy, Pietro Berettini, 1669, a cast bronze medal by C.J.F. Chéron, draped bust right, reverse winged figure seated, resting against an easel for drawing, a short staff held in her outstretched hand pointing towards a circlet of stars, 83mm (BDM VII, 179). A pleasant medium to light brown patina, holed neatly at top, very fine and attractive (£400-600)

Pietro Berettini (1596-1669), baroque architect and painter. The legend on the reverse of this medal cleverly forms an anagram of the sitter’s name
