British, Glasgow Academy, an engraved oval silver medal formed from two plates joined at the rim, unsigned, inscribed (French Department, Highest Class, Master Dux, Louis A.J. Barbe, Session 1898-99), 46 x 43mm. Extremely fine; with ornate suspension loop attached (£40-50)

Louis Auguste Barbé, linguist and writer, lived at Dunbar; born in Guernsey and educated in Paris, he was Professor of English at the Collège Jean Bart, Dunkirk before moving to Paisley Grammar School.
