George III (1760-1820), Bank of England, a Mexico, Charles III, 2 Reales, 1779, Mexico City, FF, obverse countermarked with the head of George III in oval (cf. Kelly p.24 and pl.ii, 4). Coin good fine and toned, countermark extremely fine, very rare (£150-200)

H.E. Manville, in a paper read to the British Num. Soc. on 25 Apr. 2000, asserted that this and other such pieces (cf. H.D. Gibbs, lot 76), although from genuine punches, are more in the way of trial pieces, in that all assay offices would have the genuine punches available
