Hammer Price:
£75

William III (1694-1702), Sixpence, 1697e over n, first bust, small crowns, 2.79gm (ESC–; SC–). Obverse mediocre but the overstamping very clear, reverse worn, apparently unpublished (£30-40)

While Bristol and Chester obverse dies were employed in overstruck form at Exeter during the Great Recoinage, it would appear that this is the first instance of a Norwich die being used at Exeter. A copy letter from the Royal Mint is sold with the lot
