Edward III (1327-1377), Post-Treaty period, Groat, London, mm. cross pattée on obv., saltire on rev., pellets by central lis of crown, saltire before civi, 4.25g/4h (Doubleday 627; LAL 10/10; N 1286; S 1637). Striking split and a few surface marks, otherwise nearly very fine, reverse better, very rare £400-450

The coin passed through Seaby’s twice, in 1962 and 1973. The first ticket states ‘Unique; a mule exists’, referring to the Treaty/Post-Treaty mule in Doubleday (lot 608) which is from the same distinctive reverse die
