Early Uninscribed issues, Quarter-Stater, British Lx [Whaddon Chase type], degraded head of Apollo with zig-zag wreath pattern, wings above, pellet-in-annulet below, rev. horse right, winged ornament above, ‘spear’ by neck, pellet-in-annulet below, 1.38g/12h (ABC –; BMC –; VA –; cf. S 43). Nearly extremely fine with a handsome prancing horse, of the highest rarity and the variety apparently unpublished

The ‘spear’ by, or through, the horse’s neck may be a later addition or alteration to the die
