Col., 3.G.R.); together with a hand painted miniature portrait of recipient on ivory, 85mm by 68mm, in gilt metal glazed frame, with its double-fronted hinged fitted case, with paper label inscribed ‘Lt. Colonel J.C.D. Bruce, by Kathleen Goodman’; related military insignia, ribbon bar, etc. (10); commission document as Second Lieutenant, dated 13 August 1923; related commission documents belonging to his Grandfather, Elliott Armstrong Bruce, dated variously between 1859 and 1879, nearly extremely fine (lot) £300-350

Lieutenant Colonel John Charles Douglas Bruce was born on 2 August 1902, commissioned into the Somerset Light Infantry, 30 August 1923; Lieutenant, 30 August 1925; Adjutant, 1 September 1931 to 31 August 1934; transferred to the Indian Army, attaining rank of Major, 30 August 1940, subsequently promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
