William Charles Reeves was a Chauffeur who volunteered for the Royal Naval Air Service in January 1915 for the duration of hostilities. He served with the Armoured Cars in France for 2 years from February 1915. He was first mentioned in despatches, London Gazette 26 April 1918, ‘...to officers and men of the Royal Naval Air Service, in recognition of their services at Dunkirk.’, at which time he was serving with 9 Squadron, R.N.A.S., as an Engineer. He was then recommended for the award of the Meritorious Service Medal, ‘For conspicuous devotion to duty. Joined Squadron February 2nd 1917’, but this was subsequently downgraded to another mention which was announced in the London Gazette on 11 July 1919. Sold with copy service history and details of both recommendations.
