A very good Great War ‘Western Front’ M.M. group of four awarded to Private D. H. Dennis, Leinster Regiment, who was granted a Divisional Citation for his gallantry at Ledeghem, where the Battalion gained two Victoria Cross’s

Military Medal, G.V.R. (4831 Pte., 2/Leins. R.); 1914-15 Star (4831 Pte., Leins. R.); British War and Victory Medals (4831 Pte., Leins. R.); together with original Divisional Citation, inscribed ‘The 29th Division, 4831 Pte. H. Dennis, M.M., Leinster Regiment. I have read with much pleasure the reports of your Regimental Commander and Brigade Commander regarding your gallant conduct and devotion to duty in the field on 14th Oct. 1918 near Ledeghem and have ordered your name and deed to be entered in the record of the 29th Division, signed, Major General D. E. Cayley, Commanding 29th Division’, surname spelt Denness on trio, generally nearly extremely fine (4) £400-500

It is quite probable that Dennis’s M.M. was awarded for the action at Ledegheim, although this may be difficult to prove beyond doubt. See footnote to Lot 999 (Hyde-Sander) for details of this action.
