Lance Sergeant T. Plunkett was slightly wounded at Stenekamp on 8 April 1902 whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, Leinster Regiment. The regimental history states ‘A considerable force captured and destroyed three of our blockhouses, killing three men and wounding 14. It was a very dark night and as they could not get inside the blockhouses they got on the roof and fired through it killing or wounding all the men inside. They then attacked a somewhat stronger blockhouse on Steinkamp Kop, in which were Captain Jones and the headquarters of his company, but were driven off with some loss.’
