R.H.S. Bronze Medal, case 30,126 ‘On the 21st March 1899, Corporal Sheehy, 2nd Battalion, Leinster Regiment, was bathing in the sea at Belle Plaine, Barbados, and could not regain the shore. Three other men of his battalion went to his help, but also got into difficulty. Corporal M. Lennon, Lance Corporal T. Brown, Private’s J. Dunne and E. Halpin swam out and saved the three men, but Corporal Sheehy was drowned.’
