Lieutenant Colonel William Atherton Park was commissioned into the Bombay Infantry on 11 December 1849 being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 August 1856. He served during the Indian Mutiny campaign and was present at the siege and capture of Ratghur, action at Barodea, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing of the Muddenpore Pass, storming of Jhansi, and Battle of Betwa. Advanced to Captain, 11 December 1861; Major, 11 December 1869; Lieutenant Colonel, Officiating 2nd in Command, 12th Bombay Native Infantry, 21 February 1871.
