A mounted group of six attributed to Major-General R. L. Petre, C.B., D.S.O., M.C., South Wales Borderers, comprising D.S.O., G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamels; M.C., G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star Trio; I.G.S. 1908, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919, mounted as worn, good very fine (6) £60-80

Petre served at the Siege and Capture of Tsingtau 1914 (Despatches); throughout the Gallipoli Campaign 1915 (Despatces, M.C.); Mesopotamia and the Capture of Baghdad 1916-18 (Despatches, D.S.O.); and in Afghanistan 1919. He was wounded at Tsingtau and in Gallipoli, and was seven times mentioned in despatches during the war. He was awarded the C.B. in 1940 when he commanded ‘Petre Force’ during the withdrawal of the B.E.F. Sold with a good amount of research.
