The Caterpillar Club badge presented to Flight Sergeant W. A. Boyd, Royal Air Force, who was taken prisoner of war after his plane was shot down by a German night fighter on the famous Peenemunde Raid

Caterpillar Club Badge, in gold, with original ruby eyes, in the form of a silk worm, the reverse inscribed ‘Sgt. W. A. Boyd’, with original pin fitting, extremely fine £300-350

Flight Sergeant W. A. Boyd was the Flight Engineer aboard one of No. 49 Squadron’s Lancaster‘s on the night of 17 to 18 August 1943, taking part in the Peenemunde Raid. His plane was shot down by a German night fighter and crashed near Greiswald, killing two of the seven crew. Boyd along with his five comrades were taken prisoner of war and held at Stalag Luft Barth Vogelsang.
