A Great War Presentation Medal, in silver, 45mm, obverse with struck wreath, the reverse engraved ‘Presented to Instructor J. W. Aldridge, by Newcastle Corps I.N.V. as a token of esteem in which he was held by the members, Oct. 1914’, fitted with claw, double loop and straight bar suspension, in case of issue; together with an original newspaper cutting detailing the ceremony at which this medal was presented, good very fine £100-150

Sergeant John W. Aldridge served during the Boer War with the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was presented with this medal when leaving the Newcastle Corps, Irish National Volunteeers, to join the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, after the outbreak of the Great war. Sold with copy m.i.c. confirming that he did not serve overseas and was not entitled to any Great War Medals. He was discharged from the regiment on 11 March 1918 due to sickness and was entitled to the Silver war Badge.
