Severely wounded at Leeuwkop on 1 April 1902. A disastrous action for the Queen’s Bays who attempted to capture a Boer laager, only to find that they were heavily outnumbered. In the face of heavy fire and close fighting that went on for several hours, they lost two squadron leaders and 10 N.C.O’s and men killed, and 5 officers and 59 men wounded.
