Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Stephen Murray-White served in the Great War with the Scottish Horse, attached 29th Lancers, Indian Army, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, London Gazette 4 June 1917 (Capt./Temp. Lt. Col., Yeomanry). He was mentioned in despatches on 6 July 1917 and served during that year as Lieut.-Colonel, 1/5th East Lancashire Regiment.
