Abyssinia 1867 (Lieut. E. J. Gunthorpe, 2nd Bombay Grenadiers) good very fine £280-320

Edward James Gunthorpe was born on 7 January 1842, son of Major W. M. Gunthorpe (see Lot 376). He was appointed to the 11th Madras Native Infantry in 1863 and served in the Abyssinian campaign attached to the 2nd Bombay Grenadiers. He was appointed to the Civil Department in November 1871, as District Superintendant of Police, Hyderabad, became Colonel in September 1889, and was appointed Commandant of the Behar Volunteer Rifle Corps in January 1892. Colonel Gunthorpe died in England on 27 December 1916.
